Did you know that, if you install new windows at your Atlanta area home, and those windows meet federal energy efficiency requirements, you could be eligible for a tax credit of up to $1,500?
It's true! As part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act that was signed into law on February 17, 2009, homeowners who install certain energy efficient upgrades in 2009 or 2010 can be eligible for valuable tax credits.
For homeowners in the greater Atlanta, Georgia area, new windows are one of the most popular items included in the list of home improvements that are eligible for the tax credit. In addition to reducing electricity bills by up to 50 percent, new windows also give homeowners the benefits of a more secure home, reduced sound, and a greatly enhanced curb appeal.
Whether your home is in metro Atlanta or in surrounding areas such as Gwinnett County, Alpharetta, Duluth, or Cobb County, your new windows must meet a list of requirements before you become eligible for the federal energy efficiency tax credit. These requirements include:
- The new windows must be placed in service from January 1, 2009 through December 31, 2010
- Your replacement windows must come with a Manufacturer Certification Statement
- The new windows must have a U factor of <= 0.30, and a Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) of <= 0.30
